Yet another search engine…

by admin on May 27, 2009

Microsoft wants to replace live.com with bing.com (don't click, there's nothing there yet), according to Wired magazine.

They did a study and hey big surprise, most people didn't find they wanted on the first query or first page.

As far as prepress goes, I have to say the search results generated by the search engines are woeful. The "weight" that rankings give to the age of the website make it so that a lot of times, archaic or obsolete information on technical issues are weighted towards the top.

I have installed a widget for Google search on my blog, just because sometimes I would rather search for stuff I have written about (and forgotten), then try to go through the search engines.

When searching for prepress related queries, Archaic information is the exact opposite of what people are searching for, I would guess. Most searchers won’t use the advanced search feature in google to search for things written after a specific date. Interesting. “bing.com”. Memorable name, better than “wolfram-alpha”!
