The Bell Tolls Again for Kodak

by admin on January 29, 2009

Picked up some chit-chat on Facebook about some Kodak guys who were checking in which people survived the latest round of layoff and who didn't.

Huh? Did Kodak lay off some people again? So I went and hunted down some  press releases about Kodak. I started to read this one until I realized it was from 2004. Interesting post though, that Lannigan is a smart guy.

Finally I checked Google news and Reuters has the numbers: Kodak to cut 4500 jobs.

It's not the end. But I think the beginning of the end is well underway. Sorry.

Quote from Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Gandalf:  Death is not the end, just another path. One which we must take.  The grey veil of this world rolls back and all turns to silver glass... and then you see it.

Pippin:  See what?

Gandalf: A green land amongst the sea.

Pippin: That doesn't seem too bad.

The Kodak layoff came swiftly. Thursday AM Kodak makes the announcement, shortly after they have a conference call with employees. Within minutes of the conference call the managers start calling their employees to swing the ax on them. Most of the news reports of layoffs came around 11:30 am, a friend of mine at Kodak was laid off by about 1pm. The kicker was that he was at a client doing an install (out of town) when they called him! I think the quote from his boss was “we trust that you will finish the install in a professional manner”. He was booked out 12 weeks with installs yet they felt the need to downsize his group. These company’s all claim they start from the top down with layoff’s, but just how many useless exec’s and managers do you think they cut? How many big bonus’s do you think they cut out? With a highly service driven company like Kodak you need your guys in the trenches. With out these guys you’ll have unhappy customers, and unhappy customers equal lost business. Everyone in the printing industry knows Kodak support can be very difficult at times with all the hoops you have to jump through. Looks like this new will only complicate things for customer.

Well off my soap box and back to work. Looks like I have a lot of learning to do, there may not be anyone left at Kodak to help…..

Great posts! Keep up the good work.
