Shopping on Boxing Day: RAM and the Didj

by admin on December 28, 2008

Well, it was interesting to say the least. First of  all, we did some shopping on the 27th of December, not the 26th, because it snowed yet another 10cm on the 26th and the side streets (where the minivan is parked) were totally snowed in. So it didn't snow on the 27th, and somehow we made it out to the main road.

My oldest son, Matthew, had a Toys R Us gift card, and after about one half-hour of negotiations, I managed to convince him to not buy any more of those accursed bakugan balls. Instead, we bought a didj gaming system. It's sorta like a Nintendo DS, but it's from the Learning Company and the games are supposed to be educational. We'll see.

As for me, I bought RAM sticks. Yah, no kidding, I got a 1 gig of RAM for $25 Canadian from Future Shop (the Canadian version of Best Buy). I buy my PCs secondhand for about $100, so they never come with enough  RAM. Now my home computer is just skimming along instead of thrashing the hard drive.

Yeah, if you are a geek like me, I would buy RAM, the prices for DDR2 are just dirt cheap. (For the Americans, I put an ad below.)

2gb transcend flash drive only $9.99

I am so old that I remember in 1993 the engineers agonizing about how if we could only afford to put 1GB of memory in a CTP RIP, all performance problems would disappear, but 1GB of RAM cost $100,000.
