The US government is objecting to the terms of the Quebecor bailout.Because the IRS is owed $10 million and the EPA is owed $150 million, it's snarled up in the courts again.
Oh wait, let's add some nuance: "The U.S. government also argues the plan would improperly release the government's claims for clean-up costs against individuals responsible for the disposal of hazardous substances and would run afoul of several federal laws."
Oh yeah, [face against palm again]whatever. Hey, let's go over some comparative numbers:
Number of employees at Quebecor: 20000 worldwide
Number of employees at Chrysler: 30-40000 (tough to say, it's a closely guarded secret, or I couldn't find any authoritative sources on the 'net)
Bailout monies by government awarded to Chrysler: Let's say $30 billion (Estimate of $97 billion in total for GM and Chrysler)
Bailout monies by government awarded to Quebecor: Well, it's looking like -$160 million to me.
So at this point you are probably thinking: "Boy I should have listened to Mom and gotten a job on the auto assembly line after finishing high school, rather than going to post-secondary and playing with computers."
No, I'm kidding. You are probably thinking, who is the complete chunderhead who was running the bankruptcy re-org for Quebecor? Who is the lame brain who had no political pull with any kind of government and a complete lack of managerial competence? Oh wait, that guy? That guy was running things at Quebecor for that last year?
