Kodak’s inkjet strategy for the prepress market?

by admin on February 1, 2008

Well, they don't seem to have one. I mean, they might have a super-secret plan which they plan to unveil at Drupa. But if they do, then they are doing an excellent job of keeping it under wraps.

The consumer division seems to be doing okay with inkjet. Doing well enough to upset Epson, which is always a good thing. But if you Google "Kodak inkjet", then this comes up in position #4. Look closely enough, and it's an Encad rebrand, which sorta blows because according to this article, shut down in 2006.

There is a rumour going around that Kodak is switching from the Epson 9800 to an HP plotter for its Prinergy customers, but that rumour has been around for months. There is a rumour that has been pretty much confirmed from multiple sources that the Veris has been whacked.

Sorta bit of a void with regard to inkjet strategy for Kodak when it comes to prepress. Considering the huge install base of Prinergy and Evo, it's a bit of a head scratcher. On the other hand, consumer inkjet is a $50 billion a year business, so maybe the Kodak inkjet guys really don't care at all about the prepress proofing market.

Oh wait, here is something on Kodak's high speed inkjets. But it doesn't mention Prinergy at all. Hmmmmm.

We just installed 2 HPZ2100 with the built in Eye1. They are amazing. Hit Gracol7 better than the Official Gracol Proof we purchased to set the standards.

Went with the GMG front end. Looked at Kodak, EFI, and GMG. GMG was just lightyears ahead of Kodak.
