Ecoprint 2 | Toner Saver | Ink Saver

by admin on September 1, 2008

So anybody who reads my blog probably knows by now that I'm not a big fan of inkjet. I even gave 8 reasons as to why inkjet sucks.

I am waiting X number of years for the patents on inkjet technology to run out. But in the meantime, it's nice to see somebody come out with a print manager that tries to cut down on ink consumption.

This little piece of software from EcoPrint2 runs in the system tray and promises to cut your ink usage from 5% to 75%.

The user interface is pretty simple:

inkjet ink savings

You have to guess-estimate the cost of running your inkjet or laser printer for a month in order to discover cost savings but it's easy to figure out if the software really works: Ram that sucker up to 75%, print out a color-sensitive test sheet on high-gloss and see if you notice the difference (You should). Then cut it back to 25% to print your proofs that aren't so colour-sensitive.

I really recommend picking up this piece of software before HP or Epson or Cannon do some economic analysis and realize that they would make money by buying out this company and shutting it down.

It's a lousy $25 and change with a 15-day trial. Payback for most commercial printers is anywhere from one month to one day, in my humble opinion.
