Exactly, castellan. (The second post up). We need to look at the iPad for WHAT IT IS and not how it compares with devices already in existence that perform a few similar functions.

The local newspaper has a competition in which they give away an iPad every day. Somehow that strikes me as being very ironic. It is a bit as if the French emperor Louis XVI would donate a guillotine to the people of Paris every day during the summer of 1793.

Since it's running the iPhone OS, yes, you can listen to your music while doing other things. Everything the iPhone does, the iPad does, except make phone calls (and you know that hole will be filled with software since there's already plenty of VoIP options on the App Store).

No Flash is still one of the best decisions Apple could have made. Flash is buggy, slow, and used in way too many places where it's unnecessary. If you really think that Flash (or even Silverlight, for that matter) is the wave of the future, you're not paying attention.

I'm still trying to decide if I want/need one myself, but it's really not missing anything that I'd want except a built-in way to get photos on the device (the $30 dongle attachment really is silly). Other features that everyone wanted were unrealistic for such a device. Two cameras for videoconferencing? Really? Who wants to hold that thing up so it's aiming at both of you? And if you say, "that's what the dock is for," then why have a tablet in the first place when what you really want is a laptop? And don't say moveable/positionable cameras, because moving parts equal breakable parts, and Apple builds stuff to last rather than putting the latest fad items on their machines.

In the run-up to the announcement I saw predictions from, "it'll cure cancer," to, "it'll go back in time and save Haiti!" I think a lot of people really lost their sense of perspective and reality with this thing. If you can look at it for what it is (and not the crazy near sci-fi-esque predictions of what it COULD be), it looks like a great device. If it fits in with my needs, I'll be picking one up.

As with all things Apple these days, I'll until at least Ver2 or Ver3 releases. It's missing an amazing number of things that would make it a must-have item. Can't even multi-task, are you serious?? So I can't listen to my tunes while checking email & Twittering & being a Cool Connected Dude? No Flash support, so no YouTube or sites with embedded video. Sure it's pretty to look at, but they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. Sorry Steve, it's a bit of a letdown so far.

According to the Engadget live bloging, Jobs said iBooks uses the ePub format.
