Adobe upgrade to CS3 …not

by admin on January 11, 2008

So I walked in this morning to Printcraft after spending the last two days at another client site (which is an interesting story itself that I will tell another time) only to find Jackie, our Prinergy operator, struggling to upgrade her workstation to Adobe's CS  3.

Since she had real work to do, and since I am the sys admin, I got to take over the not-very-pleasant task of completing the upgrade.

At about 4 o'clock, after doing a level 4 deinstall (yes, there is such a thing) and the application still crashing when attempting to activate, the Adobe support centre threw up their hands and said I needed to reinstall the mac OS.

After a quick consultation with the owner of the printing shop, the conclusion was reached that Adobe's recommendation to reinstall the OS just because their activation code is buggy was not acceptable. So tomorrow I've got to get on the phone again and tell them to come up with a better answer.

Oh, the joy of anticipation....

I have a real issue with activation schemes that keep honest people from using their software…not the reason for activation. It is so terrible that I had to call adobe tech support to get some “super special” activation patch for cs2 on my PC with a built in RAID….odd! I think the whole activation system just needs to be retooled and adobe needs to get away from the overly complex and make it more simple.
