A Slightly Better Day….

by admin on August 21, 2008

Ah, but it didn't start out too well.  I've been  trying to get a Okidata printer in the shop for weeks so we can digitally print business cards on nice stock. No word yet on when it's coming. Our current color digital printer chokes on card stock. And thin stock. And stock in-between. And chokes on days ending in "y". But let's not get into that rant again.

[Update: ETA for Oki is first week of September, fingers crossed.]

Our Eye-One spectrophometer stopped working sometime in April. We sent it off for repairs and it came back in the summer. Still couldn't get out Matchprint to calibrate. We borrowed another Eye-one to make sure it wasn't the stock or the software. We got calibrated no problem. Placed yet another call to the Eye-One service rep in Toronto who said she would get back to me.

All I worked on getting our web server back up. Fortunately, I had a backup Apache server so our wonderful customers didn't notice any out of the ordinary. At the end of the day, I finally figured out that some WordPress plug-ins were taking down the whole darn server.

Sheesh. I ripped the plug-ins out of wp-contents folder and it came back up like magic. That only took about 4 hours of my life.

Tomorrow should be even better. I only have to dealing with a busted power supply in the PC that was running ink profiles to the press.

Life of a sys admin. Hey, it's not all fun and games.
